Thirteen men’s home games and 11 women’s home games will highlight the 2009-2010 basketball schedules for The University of Texas at Tyler, which were announced by the University on Wednesday.
The men’s team will be the first to hit the hardwood on Nov. 5 when they travel to Division I Louisiana-Monroe to take on the Warhawks in an exhibition game.
The men will also be the first start the regular-season by hosting Southwestern Adventist on Nov. 16 at the Herrington Patriot Center.
On Nov. 21 and 22, both teams will take part in the Second Annual Fred Jacoby I-20 Classic with the women taking on Howard Payne and Dallas Christian at Texas-Dallas and the men playing host to Howard Payne and Jarvis Christian at the Herrington Patriot Center.
Other non-conference action for the women includes games at Hendrix on Dec. 19 and Loyola (La.) on Dec. 29 and a home game on Dec. 8 versus Jarvis Christian.
The men will round out their non-conference schedule by going to Jarvis Christian on Nov. 24 and Southwestern Adventist on Dec. 9.
Both teams will start play against American Southwest Conference West division opponents at home on Nov. 28 versus Texas Lutheran and will close out cross-division play on Jan. 3 against Concordia (Tex.), also at the Herrington Patriot Center.
After their early January meeting with Concordia, both teams will embark on a six-game road trip and will not return home until Jan. 28 when they host East Texas Baptist.
During their six-game January road trip, UT Tyler will begin ASC East play at Louisiana College on Jan. 14.
The Patriots will play six of their last eight games at home including their regular-season finales against Mississippi College on Feb. 20.
The women’s team under first-year head coach Stasha Richards and the men under third-year head coach Kenny Bizot will each look to make a return to the ASC Championships during the 2009-2010 season, after both teams qualified for their respective tournaments in each of the past two seasons.
Both teams finished fourth in the ASC East during the 2008-2009 season, with the women finishing at 15-11 overall and 12-8 in league play and the men ending their year at 12-14 and 12-8 in the ASC.
