Men’s Basketball Picked 4th in Preseason Poll

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s basketball team was picked to finish the 2009-2010 season in fourth place in the East Division of the American Southwest Conference, according to the annual preseason poll that was released by the conference on Tuesday.
The Patriots garnered 84 points in the poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and local media outlets.
LeTourneau edged out UT Tyler by 15 points to finish in third, while defending ASC Champions Texas-Dallas and Mississippi College were tabbed as the potential first and second place teams, respectively.
East Texas Baptist, Ozarks (Ark.) and Louisiana College rounded out the East Division poll in fifth through seventh places, respectively.
In the other poll, Mary Hardin-Baylor beat out reigning division champions McMurry by three points to take the top spot out West.
Seniors Dale Vanwright of LeTourneau and Brad Walker of Concordia (Tex.) each took home their respective division’s top individual honor by being named Preseason Player of the Year.
The Patriots will kick-off their 2009-2010 campaign on Nov. 16 when they host Southwestern Adventist at the Herrington Patriot Center at 7:30 p.m.
