Men’s Soccer Ends Season in Semifinals

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The UT Tyler Patriots' season came to end in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference men's soccer tournament as UT Dallas advanced on penalty kicks Saturday at Hurie Field.
Ending regulation and two overtime periods with a 1-1 tie, UTD scored on the final overtime penalty kick, giving the Comets the 3-2 edge in the shootout.
UT Tyler junior forward Michael Kendall scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 13th minute, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead which they held until five minutes left in regulation.
Senior goalkeeper Geoff Sherman kept UTD off the board until the 85th minute when sophomore defender Coleman Cochran found the back of the net.
UT Dallas recorded 17 total shots, including 13 on target and was awarded eight corner kicks. The Patriots posted 19 total shots, including nine on goal. UT Tyler received six corner kicks.
The game was the last for UT Tyler seniors Sherman, Derek Meller, and Taylor Casillas.
UT Dallas will take on the top seed, Ozarks, in the championship Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of the ASC championship will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
