Fourteen All-ASC Soccer Spots Go to Patriots

The UT Tyler men’s and women’s soccer teams have placed a total of 14 players on the All-American Southwest Conference squads to cap off historic seasons, it was announced this week.

Seven players from the ASC runner-up women’s soccer team were named to the All-ASC women’s team, including three first-team selections in Jorden Reed, Amanda Thomas and Kelly Buchanan. The Patriots advanced to the championship game of the ASC tournament in their first year eligible, falling to Hardin-Simmons, 2-0.

Reed, a senior forward, scored a team-leading seven goals on the season. To that she added four assists to top the team in total points with 18. She led all Patriots with 39 shots taken during the season.

Buchanan, a junior defender, led a UT Tyler defense that limited opponents to just 139 total shots on the year and only 15 goals. She also had two goals and two assists.

A sophomore midfielder, Thomas scored four goals and assisted on two others. She took 15 shots during the season, with ten of those on goal.

Freshman Kendall Kramer earned third team honors after matching Reed with seven goals on the year. Four of those goals were game-winning shots, leading the Patriots in that category.

Freshman Chelsea Fiscus and sophomores Lauren Pate and Samantha Fraser picked up honorable mention nods.

The UT Tyler women finished the year with a 13-4-3 record.

On the men’s side, junior forward Michael Kendall and senior goalkeeper Geoff Sherman were named to the All-ASC first team.

UT Tyler advanced to the semifinals of the ASC tournament in their first year eligible. UT Dallas advanced past the Patriots on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.

Kendall had 11 of the 40 goals scored by the UT Tyler men during the season, to which he added five assists. Leading the UT Tyler offense, he took 68 total shots, placing 37 of those on goal.

Sherman posted six shutouts on the year, placing second in the ASC in that category, and had 61 total saves. He allowed just 13 goals while facing 157 shots.

A trio of juniors was named to the second team for the Patriots. Defender Travis Fletcher and midfielders Rudy Galvan and Adam McAlpine earned spots. Fletcher helped limit opponents to just 157 shots, compared to 337 for the Patriots. McAlpine scored five goals and had two assists while Galvan added two goals and an assist.

Third team honoree Cole Brittain led the Patriots with five game-winning goals. He also had five assists.

Sophomore midfielder Tony Guillen picked up honorable mention honors.

The UT Tyler men were 12-6-1 on the year.
