The University of Texas at Tyler scored a 5-0 victory over LeTourneau Thursday night in American Southwest Conference men’s soccer.

For the first 26 minutes of the game, the Patriots outshot the Jackets eight to two, but neither team could find the back of the net.

Then, in the 27th minute senior Adam McAlpine (Kingwood, Texas) scored what would eventually be the game winning goal off an assist from sophomore Tony Guillen (Longview, Texas).

Junior Michael Kendall (Houston, Texas) and freshman Eric Oakley (Colleyville, Texas) rounded out the scoring with two goals apiece, as the Patriots went onto a 5-0 victory.  Guillen recorded another assist, while freshman Matt Frost (Richardson, Texas) also recorded two and junior Cole Brittain (Ben Wheeler, Texas) added one assist.

For the game, UT Tyler outshot LeTourneau 30 to seven, with 14 of the Patriots’ shots going on goal, compared to two by LeTourneau.

Senior goalkeeper Geoff Sherman (Tyler, Texas) had two saves between the posts for the Patriots and allowed no goals to earn the shutout victory. It was his third solo shutout of the season.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in the ASC, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 5-9-2 on the season and 2-7-1 in conference play.

The Patriots will return to action at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on Saturday when they celebrate Senior Day against East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference match.  The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
