Men's Soccer Beats Concordia, Earns Tournament Spot
October 27, 2007
The UT Tyler men’s soccer team capped its regular season with a 2-0 win over Concordia Saturday in Austin.
The win, along with a pair of weekend losses by East Texas Baptist, means UT Tyler will play Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first round of the 2007 American Southwest Conference tournament set for next weekend in Clarksville, Ark.
Just before halftime, Todd Burke chipped in an assist from Rudy Galvan to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Taylor Casillas gave the Patriots the final 2-0 margin just over two minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal.
The Patriots out shot Concordia, 17-2, with Adam McAlpine racking up a team-leading five shots.
The winner of UT Tyler’s first-round tournament game with Mary Hardin-Baylor will face Texas-Dallas on Saturday at 2 p.m.
