Men's Soccer Notches First Win, Avenges Loss to OBU
September 7, 2007
ARKADELPHIA, ARK. - Cole Brittain's goal with 37-seconds left in the first overtime period lifted UT Tyler to a 2-1 win over Division II Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark., Friday.
The win was the Patriots' first of the season and avenged their 1-0 season opening loss to OBU last week in Tyler.
OBU scored first on a Kyle Sun goal in the 14th minute and held their lead until after halftime when Michael Kendall tied the game in the 52nd minute for UT Tyler.
Both teams had chances in the final 15 minutes to grab an advantage, but the game went into sudden-death overtime, where Brittain slid the ball past OBU keeper Kyle Kammer late in the first overtime to give UT Tyler the win.
Patriots' goalkeeper Geoff Sherman recorded seven saves and UT Tyler outshot Ouachita Baptist 18-12, including 6-1 in overtime.
UT Tyler hosts Southwestern Monday at 6 p.m. in Tyler.
