Men Notch First ASC Win

After being held scoreless in their first two American Southwest Conference games last weekend, the UT Tyler men's soccer team unloaded its full fury on Louisiana College Thursday night, scoring a 5-0 win at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

Attacking was the name of the game as UT Tyler outshot Louisiana College, 21-1, including 11 shots on goal, giving the preseason favorite Patriots their first ASC win. UT Tyler is now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference. Louisiana College has an identical 1-2 conference mark and drops to 3-3-1 on the season.

Derek Meller, Tony Guillen, Michael Kendall, Billy Plasket, and Matt Frost all had goals for the Patriots in the combined effort.

Meller's goal just eight minutes in, on an assist by Cole Brittain, appeared that it might be the lone score for the Patriots. Not until the 40th minute did UT Tyler score again when Guillen hit the back of the net unassisted to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead into the half.

Kendall scored at 50:22 and Plasket hit the mark at 78:26 before Frost sealed the victory with UT Tyler's final goal in the 84th minute. All three second-half goals were unassisted.
