Late Goals Send UMHB Past Men’s Soccer
October 3, 2009

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s soccer team allowed two goals in the last fifteen minutes of Saturday’s American Southwest Conference contest against Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex and fell, 2-0, as a result.

The game stayed deadlocked at zero until the 77th minute when the Cru’s Daniel Gable broke the tie with an unassisted goal.

Mary Hardin-Baylor added an insurance goal in the 88th minute on a strike from Andrew Carrasco that beat UT Tyler goalkeeper Bailey Williams (Allen, Texas) and put his team up 2-0. Williams ended the game with two saves.

Despite enjoying advantages in both the shot and corner kick categories, the Patriots were unable to capitalize on either. UT Tyler also had difficulty putting shots on target in the match, placing just four of 12 shots on goal compared to four of nine by the Cru.

With the win Mary Hardin-Baylor improves to 8-1 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in conference play, while UT Tyler falls to 2-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the ASC.

On Friday, the Patriots will continue league play by traveling to Seguin to take on Texas Lutheran at 3 p.m.
