Men’s Soccer Finds Offensive Stride vs. LeTourneau
October 17, 20089

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s soccer team went a long way in putting this season’s offensive woes behind it with a commanding 7-1 American Southwest Conference win over LeTourneau on Saturday at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The Patriots outshot LeTourneau (4-6-4, 1-5-3), 29-4, in the contest, with 15 of their 29 shots going on goal.

Junior Edward Anaya (Hot Spring, Ark.) struck first for UT Tyler in the 7th minute off of a pass from freshman Eric Fiscus (Keller, Texas) to give his team the early lead

In the 14th minute, sophomore Justin NeSmith (Wylie, Texas) scored the eventual game-winning goal with an assist from Anaya. NeSmith ended the day with one goal and one assist.

As the game went on, UT Tyler (3-6-3, 3-3-3) got one goal each from senior Tony Guillen (Longview, Texas) and sophomores Jose Lopez (McKinney, Texas) and Jake Urbaniak (Ft. Worth, Texas), while senior Brad Bullock (Tyler, Texas) added two goals of his own.

Freshman Chris Powell (Houston, Texas) also played a big part in the Patriots’ offense by assisting in three of their seven goals on the afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Mark Oliphant (Bedford, Texas) made two saves in the match, while only allowing one goal over 90 minutes of action.

On Monday, the Patriots will return to the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex to host East Texas Baptist in ASC play at 8 p.m.
