Men’s Soccer Continues Playoff Push With Win

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s soccer team kept its postseason hopes alive on Monday night with a 3-0 American Southwest Conference win over East Texas Baptist at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.

The game began as a defensive battle with both teams creating several scoring opportunities, only to have the two defensive units come up with key stops.

However in the 36th minute, UT Tyler (4-6-3, 4-3-3) senior Brad Bullock (Tyler, Texas) finally found a weak spot in the ETBU defense and passed the ball to junior Edward Anaya (Hot Springs, Ark.) for the go-ahead goal.

In the 43rd minute, junior Brandon Warren (Duncanville, Texas) sent a shot into the box that was knocked in by an ETBU (4-5-2, 4-3-1) defender to push the Patriots’ lead to two.

Just 37 seconds after halftime, the Patriots rounded out their scoring on another goal from Anaya this time off of a pass from senior Tony Guillen (Longview, Texas).

Junior goalkeeper Mark Oliphant (Bedford, Texas) earned his second solo shutout of the season in the game by coming up with four saves.

On Saturday, the Patriots will continue ASC play when they travel to Round Rock, Texas to take on Concordia at 3 p.m.
