Men’s Soccer Battles to Tie at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Texas at Tyler men’s soccer team picked up its second tie of the season on Saturday afternoon in Abilene by ending 110 minutes of play against McMurry in a 1-1 draw.

The Patriots (1-4-2, 1-1-2) struck first in the American Southwest Conference matchup with a goal in the 5th minute from junior Daniel Kanu (Mesquite, Texas) off of a pass from senior Tony Guillen (Longview, Texas).

However, in the 21st minute McMurry (2-3-3, 0-1-3) evened the score at one with an unassisted goal from Humberto Sepulveda that just got by UT Tyler goalkeeper Bailey Williams (Allen, Texas). Williams finished the day with seven saves.

For the next 89 minutes, the two teams traded shots back and forth with neither team finding the back of the net, forcing the game to end in a 1-1 tie.

Despite enjoying a 27 to 11 advantage in total shots, the Patriots were only able to put seven of those shots on goal compared to eight by McMurry.

The Patriots will return to action on Thursday when they host Howard Payne at the Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
