UMHB Slips Past UT Tyler to Advance to Championship
May 10, 2008
TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (35-10) capitalized on three UT Tyler errors to score four unearned runs as the Lady Cru eliminated UT Tyler (43-9), 5-3, on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s NCAA Division III Softball Tyler Regional Title Game against Louisiana College.
Katina Penter led UMHB by going 2-for-4 on the day with 2 RBIs. Peter hit the game winning double in the top of the seventh that provided the insurance runs the Cru would need to withstand UT Tyler’s efforts in the bottom of the seventh.
UT Tyler shortstop Amanda Busby was 3-for-4 on the day and earned an RBI in the bottom of the seventh in the attempted Patriot rally.
Ending its season at 43 wins, UT Tyler becomes just the 14th program in NCAA Division III softball history to reach that milestone.
UMHB will now advance to the Tyler Regional Championship Game on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the UT Tyler Ballpark. Should UMHB win the first game, a deciding game two would be played approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
