Louisiana Advances to Salem with 6-2 Win Over UMHB

TYLER, Texas – The Louisiana College softball team is headed to Salem, Va., to compete in the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball World Series. The Wildcats won the Tyler Regional on Sunday with a 6-2 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The game stayed even for the first innings at a scoreless tie. In the bottom of fifth inning, Louisiana scored shortstop Ashleigh Clement off of an error by UMHB third baseman Megan Bohne to make the score 1-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats exploded offensively scoring five runs of five hits in the inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Lady Cru scored two runs and had the bases loaded with two outs. However, the final UMHB batter grounded out, to give Louisiana the 6-2 win.
Outfielder Jessica Thompson and catcher Erica Harwell led the Lady Wildcats by going 2-for-4, Thompson also added a run and a RBI. Ashleigh Clement finished her day by going 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
For Mary Hardin-Baylor, catcher Kacie Kripner led the way, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In the circle, Louisiana’s Kelly Williams went the distance, giving up just two runs off of eight hits with five strike outs.
Louisiana will enter the World Series as the No.1 seed. The Lady Wildcats first game will be on May 16 against the winner of the Providence Regional and the No. 8 seed, Rhode Island College.
