Louisiana One-Hits Linfield in Win

TYLER, Texas – Pitcher Kelly Williams of top-seed Louisiana College (40-5) allowed just one hit, a double in the sixth inning, in the 4-0 of shutout of four-seed Linfield College (37-5) on Thursday in the final game of Day One of the Tyler Regional of the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Championships.

Williams (8-2) allowed just one hit and three walks on the day, all with no strikeouts. Williams has now won three games in a row for LC. After pitching extra innings in Linfield’s earlier 1-0 win over Redlands, pitcher Brittany Miller earned just her second loss of the year by giving up two runs off of three hits over two innings.

Louisiana shortstop Ashleigh Clement went 3-for-4 on the day with one run and one RBI, while catcher Erica Harwell was a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one RBI and one walk.

The win gives Louisiana the day off on Friday. LC returns to UT Tyler Ballpark on Saturday to take on the winner of Friday’s Mary Hardin-Baylor and La Verne game at 10 a.m. With the loss, Linfield moves to the elimination bracket to take on Chapman on Friday at 12 p.m.
