UT Tyler Rallies to Eliminate Redlands

TYLER, Texas – UT Tyler (41-8) outfielder Julie Smith hit a two RBI double down the left field line in the sixth inning of Friday’s NCAA Softball regional match-up with Redlands (34-7) to give her team the lead late in the game. Smith’s RBIs represented the winning runs of the game, as the Patriots held on for the 5-3 win to eliminate Redlands from the seven team tournament.

The Patriots scored first in the contest off of a double from outfielder Carly Collins in the top of the second inning. Redlands would answer UT Tyler’s run with two of their on a single from Roxy Lambert and a sacrifice fly from Aleisha Martinez in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single from second baseman Dory Baga that scored Melanie Hamlin.

In the top of the sixth, UT Tyler’s bats came alive as the Patriots scored four runs off of four hits with one Redlands error in the inning.

UT Tyler was unable to add additional run in the top of the seventh, but played lights out defense in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to win the game.

The Patriots will now take on the winner of the Linfield/Chapman game on Friday at 4 p.m.
