Louisiana Too Much for UHMB in 10-2 Win

TYLER, Texas – Louisiana College’s (41-5) freshman pitcher Rene’ Schwartzenburg threw four no-hit innings and ended the game with nine strikeouts and a combine shutout in LC’s 10-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor (34-10) in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Tyler Softball Regional on Saturday morning.
In the game, four different Louisiana players had two or more hit and combined for nine of the Wildcats 12 hits on the day
Shortstop Ashleigh Clement was 3-for-4 on the day and outfielder Amber Thomas was 1-for-2 each with a double. Outfielder Jessica Thompson was 2-for-5 on the day including a triple and 3 RBIs, while first baseman Aimee Dubroc was 2-for-3 with the day’s lone homerun. Third baseman Lacee Chruma also had a good day, as she went 2-for-4 with two runs.
UMHB second baseman Erica Salazar led the way for the Lady Cru in the game by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run and one RBI.
Rene’ Schwartzenburg picked up her 16th win of the year in the six inning effort, while UMHB pitcher Kelsey Greeson fell to 18-3.
UMHB now moves to the Elimination Bracket where they will face the winner of the Texas-Tyler/La Verne match-up on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the win earns Louisiana College a spot in Sunday’s Championship Game or Games that will start at 12 p.m. at the UT Tyler Ballpark. The winner of the Tyler Regional will advance to 2008 NCAA Division III Softball World Series in Salem, Va., on May 16-20.
