UT Tyler Tennis Beats UT Dallas 9-0

The UT Tyler men’s and women's tennis teams each beat UT Dallas 9-0 in a dual match at the Summers Tennis Center March 29.

The UT Tyler women's team, led by team captain Lauren Collum, won all its matches without losing a set. Collum and Katie Burrow beat UT Dallas's number one team, Leslie Chen and Alexis McCubbin, 8-3 in doubles. Collum (Patriots’ number one player) then defeated Chen in singles 6-4, 6-0.

Greg Jones, a freshman and UT Tyler’s top player, defeated the American Southwest Conference tournament champion, Kevin Durten, in a singles match, 6-3, 6-4. Coach Ken Olivier said, "This was a big win for Greg; he now knows that he can beat anyone in the ASC, and he's just a freshman. Greg has tremendous talent and potential, and he's playing quite well at this point in the season". The men also did not lose a set.

The men's record improves to 3-5, and the women's record is 4-3. The Patriots’ next match is April 11 at 6 p.m. against the University of Dallas at the UT Tyler Summers Tennis Center. April 12-13, UT Tyler hosts the United States Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.
