Soccer Head Coach
Kenny Jones
The
beginning of the 2004 season marks Kenny Jones' third year
as men's soccer coach at The University of Texas at Tyler.
The 2003 Patriot
men's soccer team went 19-1 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the
American Southwest Conference's East Division in route
to the divisional championship and the USCAA national title. Jones
was named the ASC's East Division Coach of the Year and USCAA
National Coach of the Year for his efforts
In
2002, their first-ever season of competition, the Patriots were
13-5-2.
Jones came to UT Tyler from the University of Dallas, where he
served as head men's coach and assistant women's coach for three
years.
Besides his
coaching duties at UT Tyler, Jones is currently the technical
director of the East Texas Spirit club team and is a
member of the Region III Olympic development coaching staff.
Jones has been involved in soccer since 1980, both as a player
and a coach. He joined the University of Dallas coaching staff
in the spring of 1999 as an assistant to men and women's soccer
programs. He was promoted to head men's coach in August 1999.
Jones was director of coaching for the Little Rock, Ark., Soccer
Club for two years and was on the staff with the Arkansas State
Olympic Development Program. He also served as assistant men's
and women's soccer coach at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., head
women's soccer coach at Pulaski Academy High School in Little Rock
and head men's soccer coach at North Little Rock High School.
On the collegiate level, Jones played soccer at Hendrix College,
where he led the team in scoring his first year and was a three-time
selection to the All-Conference Team. He was honored as the college's
Most Outstanding Male Athlete following his senior season.
Jones went on to play semi-professionally in the USISL for the
Arkansas A's and led the team in scoring after just two years.
As head coach for men's soccer at UT Tyler, Jones is responsible
for recruiting student athletes, planning and supervising matches
and scrimmages, negotiating a schedule of competition against other
universities and promoting soccer and athletic programs within
the university community, Tyler and East Texas.
Jones holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hendrix College
and a master's degree in social work with emphasis in human development
from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
He is a member
of the North Texas State Soccer Association Olympic Development
Programs
and educational coaching staff. He also holds
a U.S. Soccer Federation "A'' National Coaching license and
a U.S. Soccer Federation National Youth License.
