Patriots Win in Overtime Men's Soccer Match
October 7, 2003

ETBU soccer player and UT Tyler soccer player during gameIt took two overtime periods, but the UT Tyler men's soccer team extended their American Southwest Conference winning streak to eight games with a 2-3 win over rival UT Dallas in Richardson on Tuesday.

UTD started out on top, breaking the scoreless play on one of 10 corner kicks for the Comets, when Alan Imberman connected with Ali Morshedi in the 52nd minute to go up, 1-0. The Patriots attacked back quickly and almost immediately tied up the score on a goal by Ryan Hatcher in the 54th minute off a UTD goalkeeper save that rebounded.

The score would remain a 1-1 tie until the 79th minute when UT Tyler’s keeper Josh Wilson made an outstanding save on a hard shot from Petar Tomov which deflected. UTD’s David Martin was there to clean up the ball and helped the Comets to a 2-1 lead.

In the blink of an eye, the Patriots fired back yet again, tying up the score at two apiece on a goal from Travis Whitehurst. The end of regulation saw both teams still on two and it was not until the second overtime period that UT Tyler answered in the name of Taylor Casillas, who scored the game-winner on a picture-perfect shot outside the box.

The loss drops the Comets to 5-3 in league play, while UT Tyler remains unbeaten at 8-0. The Patriots are 11-1 on the season.
