Garner Selected Athlete of the Week at UT Tyler

Leigh Garner, a freshman midfielder on the Patriot women’s soccer team, is UT Tyler’s athlete of the week for Oct. 20-26, 2003.

A native of Mesquite, Garner attended Poteet High School. She has scored two goals for the Patriots on the season and assisted on four others. She has taken 34 shots, 21 of which have been on-goal.

“Leigh has had an outstanding season including this past weekend when she had two excellent games, scoring a goal against Austin College on Sunday,” said women’s head coach Jodi Lovell. “Leigh is an outstanding student-athlete that represents this program in a top notch manner.”

The women’s soccer team is 9-8 overall and finished 7-7 in American Southwest Conference play. The Patriots are seeded third in the USCAA National Soccer tournament to be held on the UT Tyler campus this weekend.
