The University of Texas at Tyler soccer teams ended their fall season with wins over American Southwest Conference foe LeTourneau University in Longview Friday night. In their second year of provisional membership in the NCAA, the UT Tyler teams are not eligible for the conference playoffs. Had they been, the UT Tyler men would have been seeded second in the conference tournament and the women would have made the tournament as the sixth seed. Men Male Bekka scored off a pass from Adam McAlpine to give UT Tyler the 4-3 double overtime win over LeTourneau. The Patriots (13-3, 10-3 ASC) scored 11:43 into the game when Taylor Robbins rebounded his own shot off a free kick and pit it in the back of the net. LeTourneau (8-9-2, 4-7-1 ASC) evened the scored on a goal By Ben Maier at 30:49 before UT Tyler retook the lead as McAlpine scored on a set play off a free kick from Travis Whitehurst. LeTourneau was able to take a 3-0 lead before Skyler Clarkston scored off a pass from McAlpine. Bekka’s ninth goal of the season ended the game and gave the Patriots the win. UT Tyler finished the season in second place in the ASC. Women Carrie Chisholm scored a goal with 5:59 remaining in regulation to lift UT Tyler to a 1-0 win over LeTourneau. The LadyJackets fall to 4-11 and 4-8, while the Patriots improve to 8-7 and 8-5. The Patriots controlled the game offensively, but were unable to score until late in the second half. Chisholm gathered up an uncleared loose ball and she was able to rifle a shot from the 18-yard line past diving LeTourneau goalkeeper Julie Kohn The Patriots outshot the 'Jackets 15-5 in the game and were able to limit LeTourneau's scoring chances. |
