Sherman Named ASC Defensive Player of the Week

The University of Texas at Tyler men’s soccer goalkeeper Geoff Sherman has been named the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 20-26, the conference office announced Monday.

Sherman, a graduate of Bishop T.K. Gorman High School in Tyler, allowed one goal and made 14 saves, earning two winning decisions in back-to-back conference wins. Sherman shutout Ozarks 1-0 making 9 saves (Sept. 24), then made 5 saves to halt Austin College 3-1 (Sept. 26).

For the season, Sherman has allowed only one goal while facing 43 shots. He has spent 316 minutes in six games in goal for UT Tyler and made 21 saves on the season.

UT Tyler is 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the ASC. This week the Patriots travel east for conference games against Louisiana College (Friday) and Mississippi College (Saturday).
