UT Tyler Men's Soccer Wins ASC Championship, Women's Soccer Takes Season Finale

DygertThe UT Tyler Patriots won their second American Southwest Conference championship on Saturday, picking up a 2-0 win over LeTourneau before 250 fans at the UT Tyler Premier Soccer Field.

Head Coach Kenny Jones and the Patriots finish the season with a 14-4-1 record overall and 10-2-1 in the ASC.

The Patriots’ first goal game at 20:30 in the first half when Taylor Robbins knocked in a cross from teammate Taylor Casillas to put UT Tyler up 1-0.

Erik Schaal scored the insurance goal for UT Tyler nine minutes later when Christian Trinh placed a corner kick in front of Schaal left of the goal.

UT Tyler took 23 shots compared to just six for LeTourneau. Andy Rogers and Geoff Sherman shared goalkeeping duties for the Patriots, combining for three saves.

The Patriots, in their third year of NCAA provisional membership, cannot advance to the conference tournament or NCAA championships.

UT Tyler also won the 2003 ASC East Division Championship and the USCAA National Championship that same season.

JosephWomen’s Game

The UT Tyler women used three first-half goals to cruise to a 4-2 victory over LeTourneau in their season finale.

The Patriots finish the season with a 10-8-1 mark and an 8-5 record in the ASC.

Senior Jovahnna Joseph scored her second goal of the season in the 12 th minute to put UT Tyler on the board early.

Jorden Reed scored at 14:03 and assisted Nicolette Weil on a goal at 36:07 to put UT Tyler up 3-0 at the half.

The Patriots out-shot LeTourneau 26-8

Leigh Garner put UT Tyler up 4-0 with a goal in the 73 rd minute. LeTourneau, in the form of Erica Crim, then scored two unassisted goals in the 75 th and 84 th minutes to put LeTourneau on the board.

Kristen Robertson made 3 saves in goal for UT Tyler while allowing two goals.

Head coach Stefani Webb finishes her first season at UT Tyler. She was assisted by Rachael Addison.
