Softball Coaches Named West Region Staff of the Year
June 25, 2009

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Texas at Tyler head softball coach Mike Reed and assistant coaches Christy Shipley-Gipson, Keith Bell and Coby Gipson were named the Co-West Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the 2009 season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday .

The Patriot coaches will share the award with the coaching staff from Linfield, who finished second at the 2009 NCAA West Regional. More>>>

Softball’s Wyly, Richardson Earn Second All-American Honors

VAN NUYS, Calif. – Sophomore Whitney Wyly and senior 'Roo Richardson of The University of Texas at Tyler softball team received their second All-American honors for their work during the 2009 season on Wednesday when each was named to an Easton All-America team.

Wyly and Richardson were previously named as first and second team Division III All-Americans, respectively, by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association last month. More>>>

Softball Honored By Texas House of Representatives

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler softball team was honored by the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature on Thursday with the passing of HR 2775, recognizing the accomplishments of the 2009 Patriot squad.

The bill was authored by Representatives Leo Berman, Tommy Merritt, Byron Cook, Bryan Hughes and Chuck Hopson. The bill was filed on Wednesday and adopted by the House on Thursday. More>>>

Wyly, Richardson Earn Softball’s First All-America Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore Whitney Wyly and senior ‘Roo Richardson of The University of Texas at Tyler softball team became the first-ever postseason All-Americans in program history when the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its annual list during last week’s NCAA Division III College World Series.

Wyly was named to the first team, while Richardson was named to the second team. Additionally, Wyly was also named to the All-Tournament team at the College World Series. More>>>

Tufts Ends Softball Patriots’ World Series Run

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The University of Texas at Tyler softball team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to Tufts on the third day of the 2009 NCAA Softball Championship at Montclair State University.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The University of Texas at Tyler softball team advanced in the 2009 NCAA Softball Championship with a 4-2 win over Ohio Northern on Saturday at the Montclair State University Softball Stadium.

The Patriots will play the loser of the Tufts/Coe match-up at 1:30 p.m. CDT Sunday. Ohio Northern, winner of the Greencastle, Ind., Regional, is eliminated from the Championship and ends its season with a 39-6 record. More>>>

Errors Doom Softball Patriots in NCAA Opener

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The University of Texas at Tyler softball team suffered a 5-1 loss to Gustavus Adolphus in the opening game of the 2009 NCAA Softball Finals at the Montclair State University Softball Stadium.

The Patriots (38-9) controlled the game through the first 5 ½ innings and outhit the Gusties, 10-5, overall, but two defensive errors and a home run in the bottom of the 6th inning allowed Gustavus (40-9) to post five runs. More>>>

Softball Falls in Game 1, Game 2 of ASC Championship Suspended
May 2, 2009

IRVING, Texas – The 14th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team lost the first half of the 2009 American Southwest Conference Championship game, 6-0, to No. 11 Louisiana College on Saturday at Trinity View Park in Irving, forcing a winner-takes-all game two that immediately followed.

However, game two was halted in the bottom of the second inning due to inclement weather and will resume on Sunday at Noon. The game was scoreless at the time of postponement. More>>>

LONGVIEW, Texas – The 6th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team posted back-to-back shutouts against LeTourneau on Friday afternoon in Longview, as the Patriots swept the LadyJackets in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, 11-0 and 4-0.

In game one, sophomore Kelsey Ainsworth (Mildred, Texas) threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career by retiring 15 of 16 batters, including three via strikeout. Ainsworth was just one hit batsman away from tossing the second consecutive perfect game for UT Tyler. More>>>

Softball’s Shepherd Perfect in DH Sweep at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The 6th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team had a big day offensively, as it swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader with Ozarks (Ark.), 8-1 and 22-0, on Monday afternoon at Hurie Field in Clarksville.

However, the highlight of the day was sophomore Stacy Shepherd’s (Houston, Texas) perfect game in the day’s finale. Shepherd pitched five complete innings and allowed no hits, no runs and no walks while fanning eight of fifteen batters. More>>>
