Softball Four Patriots Garner Academic All-America Honors BRISTOL, Conn. – Senior Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas), senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) and junior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) all received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division District 6 softball and baseball honors on Thursday. Akin-Henton was named designated player for the First Team, while second baseman Peters, third baseman Towns and pitcher Holland were all named to the Second Team.
Six Patriots Earn All-West Region Honors STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.), junior Megan “Roo” Richardson (Platteville, Colo.) and freshman Sara DeStefano were all named Second Team All-East Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Tuesday. Freshman Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas) and sophomores Carly Collins (Ennis, Texas) and Amanda Busby (Elysian Fields, Texas) also received All-Region honors with all three being named to the Third Team. Softball to Play-In, Host NCAA Regional The University of Texas at Tyler softball team (40-7) received one of 18 Pool C, or at-large, bids into the 2008 NCAA Division III Softball Championships on Monday morning and will stay at home for regional play at the UT Tyler Ballpark. Softball Wins Two, But Falls in ASC Finals IRVING, Texas – Going into the final day of the ASC tournament, the University of Texas at Tyler softball team needed three wins to take home the American Southwest Conference Championship. The Patriots used late inning heroics tin the first two games of the day, but came up just one run short in the final game against Louisiana College and fell to the Wildcats, 2-1, to finish second in the ASC in just their first year of postseason eligibility. Rare Match-Up Puts Spotlight on ASC February 23, 2008. Memphis, Tennessee. The sports world stopped for about three hours and enjoyed a rarity in college sports, a No. 1 versus No. 2 regular season match-up. A game that is usually reserved for the post-season was being played on this cold winter night in February. Memphis vs. Tennessee, it had been billed as an epic matchup. NCAA Selects UT Tyler to Host Softball Regional The good news keeps coming for The University of Texas at Tyler softball team. After learning they were the unanimous No.1 team in NCAA Division III according to the NFCA poll released Friday, the Patriots swept a Friday afternoon doubleheader from Ozarks to improve to 20-0 on the season. If that wasn’t enough, the NCAA informed UT Tyler officials Friday afternoon that the University has been selected to host a regional championship tournament May 8-12 at the UT Tyler Ballpark. Peters Earns Second Straight ASC Honor RICHARDSON, Texas -- For the second consecutive week, senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.) was named East Division Hitter of the Week by the American Southwest Conference on Monday afternoon Peters guided the second-ranked Patriots to a 4-0 record at the annual ASC First Pitch Cross-Division Tournament on Friday and Saturday of last week. Softball Goes 4-0 at ASC First Pitch The University of Texas at Tyler softball team went 4-0 in the annual American Southwest Conference First Pitch tournament at Oran Good Park on Friday and Saturday. The second-ranked Patriots defeated Texas Lutheran and Hardin-Simmons, 19-3 and 9-0, respectively, on Friday. On Saturday, UT Tyler defeated Howard Payne, 6-1, in the first game and beat Mary Hardin-Baylor, 10-8, in the final game of the tournament. The Patriots were just one of two teams out of the 14 teams that were in action to go undefeated on the weekend.

The University of Texas at Tyler softball team swept a doubleheader with No. 3 Plattsburgh State on Sunday afternoon at the UT Tyler Ballpark. In game one, Patriots shutout the Cardinals, 4-0. In game two, it was more of the same as UT Tyler picked up the 7-2 win. The wins were the second and third of the weekend for UT Tyler against Plattsburg, as the two teams met on Friday in the LeTourneau Spring Softball tournament. The Patriots won that contest by a score of 12-1. Over the three games, the Patriots outscored the Cardinals, 23-3. More>>>
