Harrington’s Perfect Game Fuels Softball’s Sweep of LeTourneau
April 1, 2008
Freshman Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas) threw a perfect game in the first game of a doubleheader with LeTourneau at the UT Tyler Ballpark on Tuesday night. The Patriots won game one, 9-0, and did the same in game two, 6-1. The Patriots are now 24-0 overall and 8-0 in American Southwest Conference action.
Harrington allowed no hits with no walks, no hit batters, and no wild pitches. This was the first perfect game in program history for UT Tyler.
Offensively in game one, the Patriots had little trouble getting their bats going. Freshman Sara DeStefano (Franklin, Texas), sophomore Amanda Busby (Elysian Fields, Texas) and junior Megan Richardson (Platteville, Colo.) all hit doubles on the day, while DeStefano also hit a homerun. Senior Lindsay Peters (Shreveport, La.) completed the cycle for UT Tyler by hitting a triple.
In game two, the Patriots were able continue with their offensive power, this time with six runs off of eight hits. Megan Richardson and sophomore Kara Turner (Troup, Texas) each hit homeruns, as UT Tyler cruised to its 30th straight victory dating back to the 2007 season.
Freshman Kelsey Ainsworth (Mildred, Texas) picked up the win for the Patriots by allowing just one run off of five hits while striking out one batter.
The Patriots will now look to Thursday when they travel to Pineville, La., for an ASC doubleheader with No. 2 Louisiana College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
