Softball Splits at ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas -- The top-ranked University of Texas at Tyler softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at East Texas Baptist. The Patriots shutout the Tigers, 8-0, in game one, but fell 3-4 in game two.

In game one, sophomore Carly Collins (Ennis, Texas) was 2-for-3 on the day with two runs and six RBIs. Collins hit a two RBI homer in the top of the first and grand slam in the top of the second.

Senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.) finished the scoring for UT Tyler in the top of the sixth by hitting a two RBI single to centerfield.

Freshman Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas) picked up her 11th win of the season by allowing just four hits in a complete game shutout.

In game two, a 7th-inning rally by the Patriots came up one run shy, as East Texas handed UT Tyler just its second loss of the year.

UT Tyler now stands at 28-2 on the year and 12-2 in the ASC; while ETBU is 18-10 overall and 7-7 in league play.

The Patriots return to the diamond on Wednesday, when they travel to Richardson to take on UT Dallas in an ASC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
