Softball Pounds Texas-Dallas in Twin Bill
April 16, 2008

RICHARDSON, Texas – After dropping two spots in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll earlier in the day, the University of Texas at Tyler made an emphatic statement by blasting Texas-Dallas in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, 17-3 and 18-3.

In game one, senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.) got things started right by homering in the first at bat of the game. In the second inning, the Patriots continued to have hot bats, as junior Megan Richardson (Platteville, Colo.), freshman Sara DeStefano (Franklin, Texas), junior Kate Bell (Forney, Texas) hit back-to-back-to-back homeruns to kick of the inning.

Sophomore Amanda Busby (Elysian Field, Texas) went 4-for-5 in the game with two runs and four RBIs. Busby’s four hits tied a UT Tyler single-game record.

Inside the circle, freshman Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas) picked up her 12th win of the season by allowing just two runs off of seven hits over 4 innings of work.

In game two, UT Tyler set a team single-game record by blasting off 22 hits, eclipsing the previous record by four hits. The Patriots also scored the second most runs in a single-game in program history with 18.

Lindsey Peters would also tie the UT Tyler single-game hit mark on the day, as she went a perfect 4-for-4 in game two with two RBIs. Megan Richardson, Kate Bell and freshman Brittanni Hanna (Mesquite, Texas) followed close behind Peters, as each went 3-for-4. Richardson had two doubles, two RBIs and, one runs, while Bell had two runs and one RBI. Hanna also finished with a great line, batting in four runs while scoring two of her own.

Freshman Stacy Shepherd (Houston, Texas) pitched five innings and allowed just two runs off of five hits in her third win of the season.

With the wins the Patriots advance to 30-2 on the year and 14-2 in the ASC East, while the Comets fall to 11-22 overall and 5-13 in conference action.

UT Tyler will close out a six-game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Longview for a doubleheader with LeTourneau. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
