Softball Finishes 11th in Final National Poll

STARKVILLE, Miss., – The University of Texas at Tyler softball team finished the 2008 season at No. 11 in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll that was released Tuesday.

The Patriots, who finished third in their regional in May, were the highest ranked team from the West Region in the poll.

Other West Region teams making the list were Linfield at twelfth, Mary Hardin-Baylor at thirteenth, Redlands at nineteenth and Chapman at twenty-fourth. The Patriots eliminated both Linfield and Redlands from the regional and eliminated Mary Hardin-Baylor from the American Southwest Conference championships.

The only other team from the ASC appearing in the poll was Louisiana College, who came in at third. Louisiana won the Tyler regional and finished in third place at the College World Series.

The Patriots finished their 2008 campaign with a record of 42-9, the third best record in all of Division III softball.
