Peters Earns National Honor, Patriots Stay at #2
March 13, 2008

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.) was named Division III National Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday morning.

This is the first national honors of the season for UT Tyler.

Peters guided the second-ranked Patriots to a 4-0 record at the annual ASC First Pitch Cross-Division Tournament on Friday and Saturday of last week. The senior second baseman finished the week with a .727 batting average, a 1.727 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .824. Peters went 8-for-11 on the week, with 11 RBIs, eight runs, six walks, three homeruns, two doubles and no strikeouts.

In Saturday’s game with Mary Hardin-Baylor, Peters set two school records. By hitting two homeruns, Peters became just the third player in UT Tyler history to hit two or more homeruns in a single game. Peters six RBIs against the Lady Cru tied her own record, set in 2005 against LeTourneau, for most RBIs in a game.

Also, released on Thursday morning was the weekly NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll. For the second-straight week, the Patriots (16-0) are the No. 2 team in all of Division III. The Patriots finished 12 points behind No. 1 Linfield (16-0) and six points ahead of No. 3 Lynchburg (14-0).

Two of the Patriots’ ASC East division rivals, Louisiana College (11-1) and East Texas Baptist (11-3), also appeared on the poll at Nos. 10 and 21, respectively. Also making appearances on this week’s poll were three teams the Patriots have already defeated this season. Plattsburgh St. (3-3) came in at No. 11; Washington-St. Louis (8-2) came in at No.12, and ASC West member Mary Hardin-Baylor (7-5) came in at No. 19.

Peters and the rest of Patriots will now travel to Clinton, Miss., to open ASC East play on Thursday at Mississippi College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
