Softball Improves to 22-0 With Sweep of UT Dallas

The University of Texas at Tyler softball team swept UT Dallas (9-16, 3-7 ASC) on Saturday afternoon at the UT Tyler Ballpark, 13-7 in game one and 9-1 in game two. The top-ranked Patriots remain undefeated and stand at 22-0 on the year and 6-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
In the first game, the Comets jumped out to an early lead by scoring five runs in the third inning. After the top of the third, UT Dallas led 5-2. However, the Patriots would score four runs in third, one in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh to put away the Comets.
Designated player Carly Collins (Ennis, Texas) led UT Tyler in the game by going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Freshman Stacy Shepherd (Houston, Texas) picked up the relief win for UT Tyler by allowing just one earned run and striking out two batters. The win was Shepherd’s second of the season
In game two, it was all Patriots. As UT Tyler out hit UT Dallas, nine to four. Freshman Brittanni Hanna (Mesquite, Texas) hit the first homerun of her collegiate career, a solo lead-off homerun in the fourth inning. Carly Collins once again went 2-for-3, while sophomore Kara Turner (Troup, Texas) went 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Freshman Kelsey Ainsworth (Mildred, Texas) allowed just one run off of four hits with four strikeouts in the complete game win. Ainsworth, now 4-0 on the year, has a season ERA of 0.98 over 21.1 innings.
The Patriots return to the UT Tyler Ballpark on Monday evening for an ASC East doubleheader with LeTourneau. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
