Peters, Richardson Lead 11 Patriots in ASC Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior Lindsey Peters (Shreveport, La.) and junior Megan “Roo” Richardson (Platteville, Colo.) received two of the top East Division awards offered by the American Southwest Conference on Tuesday morning. The duo were just two of 11 UT Tyler players that were honored by the conference.
Lindsey Peters ended her 2008 season just as she began it, as ASC East Player of the Year. Peters will share the honor with Louisiana College catcher Erica Harwell. The Patriot second baseman led UT Tyler with a .432 batting average, to go along with 53 runs off of 67 hits with 15 doubles, three triples, seven homeruns, 51 RBIs, 24 walks and eight stolen bases. Peters was also named to the ASC All-Tournament team this season as well.
‘Roo Richardson came to UT Tyler from Metro St. College in Colorado and made quite an impact in her first season in the ASC. Richardson broke the ASC single-season RBI record, as she currently has 59, breaking the old record of 53. In 2008, Richardson has a .362 batting average,37 runs off of 50 hits,13 doubles, three triples, 13 homeruns, 21 walks and four stolen bases.
Joining Peters and Richardson on the All-ASC East First Team were third baseman Sara DeStefano (Franklin, Texas), outfielder Julie Smith (Huffman, Texas), utility player Carly Collins (Ennis, Texas) and pitcher Kelsey Harrington (Texarkana, Texas).
Earning All-ASC East Second Team honors was shortstop Amanda Busby (Elysian Fields, Texas), designated player Kate Bell (Forney, Texas) and pitcher Stacy Shepherd (Houston, Texas).
Catcher Brittanni Hanna (Mesquite, Texas) and outfielder Kristen Akin-Henton (Longview, Texas) rounded out the awards for UT Tyler by earning All-ASC East Honorable Mention.
Earning the other top awards in the East were Louisiana’s McCaslin Carson, Rene Schwartzenburg and Tim Whitman, who received Pitcher, Freshman and Coach of the Year, respectively.
