Softball Schedule to Challenge Patriots

Seven teams that participated in last year’s NCAA regional tournaments, four conference champions, two top-five ranked teams, and the Division III national runner-up will provide ample competition for the UT Tyler softball team during the 2008 season. The Patriots will face the teams with these credentials as part of their 40-game schedule for the spring of 2008.

UT Tyler finished last season with a 30-10 overall record, with all 10 of those losses coming during American Southwest Conference play. The ’07 team was 17-6 at the UT Tyler Ballpark and 13-4 on the road.

UT Tyler opens the season with a home doubleheader on Feb. 16 against Austin College.

On Feb. 23-24, UT Tyler will host the inaugural UT Tyler/Easton Invitational. Washington (Mo.), which advanced to the 2007 NCAA Division III championship game, Trinity (Tex.), Webster, and Maryville (Mo.) will join American Southwest Conference teams Texas-Dallas, East Texas Baptist, and Mary Hardin-Baylor for the two-day event.

The non-conference schedule gets no easier for the Patriots as they take on Cornell College, Huntingdon, the University of Dallas, and D-III World Series participant Plattsburgh State in the LeTourneau Tournament in Longview Feb. 29 through March 1.

After a brutal non-conference slate, UT Tyler finds no solace in the ASC portion of its schedule. The Patriots are scheduled to take on three NCAA regional participants in Louisiana College, Mississippi College, and two-time defending ASC champions Hardin Simmons.

The regular season wraps-up on April 26 when the Patriots host Louisiana College for a doubleheader. The 2008 season will mark the first time the Patriots will be eligible to participate in any post-season championships.
