Softball Announces Partnership With Wilson
November 9, 2009
The University of Texas at Tyler softball head coach Mike Reed has announced that beginning with 2010 season, Wilson Sporting Goods will be UT Tyler softball's exclusive provider of batting gloves and batting helmets, as well as bats, via their DeMarini brand.
“We are excited to be partnering with Wilson and DeMarini so that we can provide our student-athletes with the best equipment the industry has to offer,” said head coach Mike Reed. “We feel that Wilson products and DeMarini bats will help us continue in our quest to compete for a National Championship every year.
Wilson Sporting Good was founded in 1913 and since that time has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of sporting goods. Wilson makes equipment for 13 different competitive and recreational sports, but is also recognized as one of the best brands in the world within softball community. 2009 NCAA Division I National Champions Arizona State, members of the USA National Softball team and several other major collegiate programs all use Wilson products.
Founded in 1989, DeMarini has quickly become the bat manufacturing industry’s gold standard. In 1993, the company introduced its patented Doublewall technology which further elevated its status and earned it the moniker of the “Mercedes of bats.” Over 250 collegiate baseball programs and over 80 collegiate softball programs across the nation use DeMarini bats and in 2007, the NCAA Baseball National Champion at all three levels was a user of DeMarini products.
The UT Tyler softball team will enter its third season of post-season eligibility and has already made an impact on Division III softball at the national level. The Patriots have been ranked as the best team in the country in each of the past two seasons and made two NCAA regional appearances during the same time-frame. In 2009, UT Tyler turned in its best performance to date by capturing both the American Southwest Conference Championship and the NCAA West Regional Championship, followed by a fifth place finish at the Division III Women’s College World Series.
