Later in the day, Phillips paired with sophomore David Ashlock (Arlington, Texas) to compete in the NCAA National Doubles Tournament. Women’s Tennis to Open NCAA Tournament in California On May 2, the No. 28 Patriots will take on Division III independent and 24th-ranked, Chapman (11-3). Men’s Tennis Captures ASC Crown The 25th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team captured the American Southwest Men’s Tennis championship on Sunday afternoon by sweeping No. 30 Hardin-Simmons, 5-0, at the Summers Tennis Center. Tennis Teams Clinch Share of East Title, Will Host ASC Tournament PINEVILLE, La. -- The University of Texas at Tyler men's and women's tennis teams shutout the Louisiana College tennis teams on Tuesday afternoon in Pineville, 9-0. With the wins, both teams clinch at least a share of the American Southwest Conference East Division title. This will be the men's fifth consecutive East Division crown and will be the third straight championship for the women. The win also earns the women the right to hold the 2008 ASC Men’s & Women’s Tennis Championships. The right to host the championship is awarded this year to the women’s East Division champion. The tournaments will take place April 18-20 at the Summers Tennis Center on the campus of UT Tyler. The top three teams from each division in men’s and women’s will compete in a six-team single elimination tournament. More>>>
