Tennis Teams Win ASC East Outright

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler tennis teams defeated UT Dallas on Friday afternoon in Richardson to win their respective American Southwest Conference East Division Titles outright. The men won their match 8-1 and the women shutout the Comets, 9-0.

The 2008 titles mark the fifth consecutive ASC East title for the men and third consecutive for the women. Since arriving at UT Tyler for the 2004-2005 season, head coach Chris Bizot has won four ASC East men's titles and three ASC East women's title.

The wins not only gave the Patriots sole possession of the East Division crown, but earned the teams first-round byes in next weekend's ASC Championship Tournaments, hosted at UT Tyler.

Each UT Tyler team finished the season with a perfect 5-0 record in the ASC. The men ended their regular season with a 15-6 overall record, while the women finished with a 15-3 overall record.

Both teams will return to action on April 19 when they take on the winner of the previous day's match between the No. 2 seed from the West and the No. 3 Seed from the East. The men will play at 10:00 a.m., followed by the women at 2:30 p.m.
