Men’s Tennis Racks Up Conference Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas -- The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team received a total of 15 honors in the sport’s annual awards as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the American Southwest Conference. Leading the way for the Patriots, were junior Dustin Phillips (Houston, Texas) who was named East Division Newcomer of the Year and head coach Chris Bizot who was named East Division Coach of the Year.
Phillips, junior Steven Campbell (San Angelo, Texas), freshman Robert Sajovich (Austin, Texas), sophomore David Ashlock (Arlington, Texas), senior Will McDonald (Houston, Texas), sophomore Nick Kreines (Houston, Texas) and junior Jordan Rephser (Friendswood, Texas) were all named to the All-Conference team.
In the division honors, Phillips, Ashlock and Campbell were named to the First Team, while Sajovich and McDonald received Second Team honors. Nick Kreines was also named East Division Honorable Mention.
In other East Division men’s honors, Eric Debusschere of Texas-Dallas was named Freshman of the Year and Chas Dunn of Mississippi College received the Player of the Year award.
After winning the ASC title on Sunday, the Patriots await the decision of the NCAA Selection Committee on April 28 to find out the destination for their first and potential second and third round matches.
