Men’s Tennis to Face Wis.-Whitewater in NCAA Tournament
April 28, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team will head to St. Peter, Minn., for their second and potential third round matches in the 2008 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship.

The 25th-ranked American Southwest Conference Champion Patriots (17-6) received a first-round bye and a No. 2 seed in the regional. UT Tyler will open play on May 3 when it takes on the 30th-ranked No. 3 seed, Wisconsin-Whitewater (20-7).

The Warhawks received a berth into the field via one of eight Pool B bids. Pool B bids are set aside for schools from conferences without automatic qualifiers or for schools who are independents.

The host and No. 1 seed for the regional will be the 6th-ranked Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, Gustavus Adolphus (28-5).

The Golden Gusties will take on the winner of the regional’s lone first round matchup between the No. 4 seed, Luther (29-9) and the No. 5 seed, Carthage (14-8).

Luther received their bid by winning the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, while Carthage also received a Pool B bid, since their conference does not have an automatic qualifier.

The finals of the regional will take place on May 4.

The winner of the regional will advance to the Championship Round which will be held May 13-18 at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. The Championship Round will include the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Times for the matches will be announced as they become available.
