Sajovich Nabs Second Straight ASC Honor

RICHARDSON, Texas – Freshman Robert Sajovich (Austin, Texas) was named the East Division men’s tennis Player of the Week by the American Southwest Conference for the second straight week on Wednesday Evening.

Sajovich went 2-2 on the week, as the then unranked Patriots took on all ranked teams. Sajovich picked up a win in the No. 1 spot against No. 30 Pomona-Pitzer and also won in the No. 2 spot against 5th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and their 17th-ranked No. 2 flight, Lawrence Wang.

Sajovich’s two losses came against No. 17 Carnegie Mellon and No. 16 Whitman. In the loss against Whitman, Sajovich rallied from one game down to force a game three. In the end, Sajovich fell to 16th-ranked Matthew Solomon.

In doubles play, Sajovich and his partner, Steven Campbell (San Angelo, Texas), also went 2-2 on the week. The two losses on the week were the first of the season for the pair.

Sajovich now has a singles record of 7-3 on the year and, along with Campbell, a doubles record of 8-2.

Sajovich and both tennis teams will return to the Summers Tennis Center on Friday afternoon to take on St. Mary’s (Minn.). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
