Men's Tennis Advances to NCAA Regional Final

ST. PETER, Minn. – The University of Texas at Tyler men’s tennis team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championship after beating Wisconsin-Whitewater, 5-1, on Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus Swanson Tennis Center.
The 25th-ranked Patriots (18-5) will play the winner of Luther/Gustavus Adolphus in the regional final Sunday.
UT Tyler swept the doubles round 3-0 with Dustin Phillips and David Ashlock defeating UWW’s Alex Lowe and Erich Palecek, 8-3, in No. 1 doubles and Stephen Campbell and Robert Sajovich scoring an 8-2 win over Danny Gilnert and John Reed. The UT Tyler combo of Nick Kreines and Jordan Repsher won 8-1 against Whitewater’s David Stefanik and Kelvin Caiati in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, UT Tyler took two of three completed matches to earn the win. In No. 1 singles, UT Tyler's Phillips defeated Lowe, 6-2, 6-1, and Ashlock won his No. 4 singles match over Glinert, 6-3, 6-1. UWW took the No. 5 singles match with Tim Moller downing Will McDonald, 6-4, 6-3.
Wisconsin-Whitewater finishes its season with a 20-8 record a ranked No. 30 in the nation.
The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the finals round set for May 13-15 at Bates College's Wallach Tennis Center in Lewiston, Maine.
