Women’s Tennis’ Season Comes to a Close in California
May 3, 2008

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The 27th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler women’s tennis team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, Calif.

UT Tyler was able to take one of three doubles matches from the Sagehens. Sophomore Brittany Ude (Corpus Christi, Texas) and freshman Lauren Giovannini won their match at No. 3, 8-5.

In singles action, senior Nikki Barrett (Allen, Texas) took a hard fought fist game 7-5, only to lose the second game 3-6. In the deciding game, Barrett showed why she is the winningest women’s tennis player in UT Tyler history and persevered to take the game and match at 7-5.

Barrett finishes her UT Tyler collegiate dual match career at 48-20 in singles play and 47-24 in doubles action.

The one singles and one doubles match would be the only two points of the day for the UT Tyler as the Sagehens won 5-2 to advance to the regional finals.

The 2008 ASC Champion Patriots conclude their season at 18-4 and as winners of the first-ever NCAA Championship contest in UT Tyler history.
