Kreines, Launius Earn National Academic Honors

BRISTOL, Conn. – Sophomore Nick Kreines and junior Beth Launius of The University of Texas at Tyler tennis teams were named to their respective CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division At-Large Academic All-District teams on Thursday.
Kreines, a sophomore business major from Houston, played the majority of the season at No. 6 singles and the No. 3 doubles. He ended his second year as a Patriot with an 11-7 record in singles play and a 16-5 record in doubles. Kreines currently boasts a 3.95 GPA.
For his work in 2008, Kreines was named All-American Southwest Conference, All-ASC East Honorable Mention and Academic All-Conference.
Launius, a junior mechanical engineering major from LaGrange, Texas, posted a 9-7 singles record and a record of 13-7 in doubles. Launius played primarily at No. 2 singles and No.1 Doubles this past year. She carries a 3.81 GPA into her senior year.
At the end of the 2008 season, Launius was named All-ASC, All-ASC East First Team and Academic All-Conference.
Kreines and Launius helped lead their respective teams to their first American Southwest Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances.
The At-Large teams are open to all varsity student-athletes who do not participate in football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball cross country or track and field.
Both players are now eligible for national All-America voting. The 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine At-Large All-America team will be announced on June 12.
