The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team downed conference rival UT Dallas in three straight games Friday night at the UT Dallas Activity Center, 34-32, 30-21, 30-27. UTD, the American Southwest Conference’s newest volleyball program, rallied to tie the score in each game, but the Patriots pulled ahead in all three matches to escape with the win. UT Tyler improves to 8-5 in ASC play and is in firm possession of third place in the divisional standings. Jerushah DuToit and Kala Laningham combined for more than one-half of the Patriots’ 40 kills – DuToit led UT Tyler with 12 kills while Kala Laningham had 10. Morgan Murphy had 14 digs for UT Tyler and Tami Trail and Kelly Roberts had 13 digs each. Three different Patriots had two blocks. UT Tyler will spend the majority of the week in practice before traveling to Mississippi for the season’s final ASC crossover tournament Friday and Saturday at Mississippi College. Texas-Tyler def.
