Volleyball Drops Finale to Millsaps

The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team ended it season with a five-game loss (30-28,30-21,26-30,26-30,15-13) to Millsaps in a non-conference match Saturday in Jackson, Miss.

UT Tyler finishes the season two games above .500 with a 17-15 mark. The team’s 12-6 conference record was good enough for a third-place finish in the American Southwest Conference East Division.

Despite strong defensive pressure from Millsaps, senior Kala Laningham managed 14 kills on the day, followed by Amanda Gadison with 10 kills.

Kelly Roberts led the Patriots in setting with 49 assists and Morgan Murphy had 21 digs. Three other Patriots also had at least 10 digs in the match, including Tami Trail (11), Kelly Roberts (16) and Jessica Lightfoot (13).

Earlier in the day, UT Tyler beat Mississippi College (33-35, 30-20, 30-28, 30-19) in their final ASC game of the year.

In that match, Jessica Lightfoot had 18 of UT Tyler’s 63 kills.

Trail, Roberts, Lightfoot and Murphy combined for 75 digs as Lightfoot led in that category as well, also with 18.

UT Tyler will not advance to the conference tournament because of its provisional member status.
