Patriots Win Season Opener

The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team won its season opener, defeating Jarvis Christian College 3-0 at the Herrington Patriot Center Wednesday.

Patriot senior Tami Trail had nine kills against Jarvis and sophomore Jessica Lightfoot had eight. Trail and senior Morgan Murphy each had six digs for UT Tyler. Freshman Ashley Winter from Houston led the team in service aces with four.

The Patriots dropped their five-game evening match to NCAA-II Dallas Baptist, 3-2. DBU narrowly won the final game 15-12. In the nightcap, Lightfoot led the Patriots with 16 kills and four service aces. Kelly Roberts had three aces and Murphy had 22 blocks.

642 fans attended the Patriots' home opener.

UT Tyler travels to Arkadelphia, Ark. for a tri-match against Ouachita Baptist and Hendrix on Saturday.
