The Patriots downed the Comets 25-30, 30-24, 28-30, 30-25, 15-10. "The intensity level was much better tonight and was the biggest difference in the game," said second-year UT Tyler head coach Rachel Short. "Our defense was on and nothing hit the floor. And, our hitters were playing very smart, attacking the hole. Everybody contributed, which combined for a good win." Oakwood's Kala Lanningham paced the Patriots up front with 16 kills, four blocks and 12 digs. Jessica Lightfoot of Scottsdale, Ariz., added 14 kills and 12 digs for UT Tyler, while Amanda Gadison of Bartlett chipped in with 10 kills, seven blocks and 11 digs. Senior Tami Trail of Kaufman came alive in game two with four of her 11 kills to spearhead the turnaround for UT Tyler. The Patriots also got 50 setting-attempts from Quitman's Kelly Roberts, while Morgan Murphey of Mesquite High School added 24 digs. Jamie Hartwell and Michelle Moos led the Comets with 15 kills each. The Comets drop to 4-10 on the year and 1-4 in conference play. UT Tyler improves to 6-7 and 2-0. The Patriots play host to Austin College in another American Southwest
Conference game on Saturday. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. |
