Murphy Earns ASC Volleyball Honor

The American Southwest Conference has named UT Tyler volleyball player Morgan Murphy the conference’s East Division defensive specialist of the week for Sept. 21-27, the league office announced late Tuesday.

Murphy, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Mesquite, Texas, averaged 3.3 digs over three matches, including 24 in Friday’s five-game (25-30, 30-24, 28-30, 30-25, 15-10) win over ASC East rival UT Dallas. Murphy leads the Patriots passing game with a 4.2 season dig average.

UT Tyler is 6-8 on the season and 2-1 in the ASC East. The Patriots travel to Marshall Thursday for a conference match-up against East Texas Baptist at 7 p.m.
