Schofield Paces Patriots Past LeTourneau
October 2, 2007

Senior Linsey Schofield exploded for a triple-double in a career-highlighting performance Tuesday night to lead The University of Texas at Tyler to a 3-2 win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference volleyball.

Schofield's 11 kills, 14 digs, and 32 assists came at just the right time as LeTourneau threatened to stop the Patriots from picking up their first home victory of the season.

The Patriots improve to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the ASC. LeTourneau falls to 3-13 (0-8 ASC).

UT Tyler opened with a 30-17 victory in game one, but LeTourneau promptly responded by winning the next two games, 33-31 and 30-24, threatening to run the table on the Patriots.

With Schofield and Lana Low, who also had 11 kills along with ten digs, leading the charge, UT Tyler mounted a come-from-behind effort and won the fourth game, 30-25.

The Patriots jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game five but a determined LeTourneau squad evened the score three-times in the final game before UT Tyler edged out the 15-13 win.

Megan McCarty led all Patriots with 35 digs on the night, followed by 18 from Shedryl Tyler. Christy Meredith's 17 assists were second to Schofield's 32. On the nets, Kelsey Walsh had three solo blocks.

Schofield also had four service aces.

For LeTourneau, Kristen Chapman had 18 kills, Abigail Hews provided 56 assists, and Bethany Suderman led the defense with 31 digs.

UT Tyler will look to stretch its winning streak to three games when the Patriots travel to Richardson for a 7 p.m. match against Texas-Dallas on Thursday. UT Tyler returns home for a 7 p.m. contest Friday against East Texas Baptist.
