Volleyball Falls to UMHB

After a successful weekend which saw the Patriots win three of four games at the Hendrix Tournament, UT Tyler returned to the Herrington Patriot Center hoping to earn their first American Southwest Conference victory of the season.

Instead, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor handed the Patriots a 3-1 loss Thursday night in front of 400 fans in Tyler.

With the loss, UT Tyler falls to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the ASC.

The Patriots made a strong run in opening the game but eventually fell, 25-30, before rebounding to score a hard-fought, 33-31, victory in game two.

Melanie Daniell, with a game-high 17 kills, led UMHB to a 30-22 win in game three and helped the Lady Crusaders win the final game, 30-23.

Shedryl Tyler led all Patriots with 10 kills. Megan McCarthy had 33 digs while Linsey Schofield put up 20 assists.

Overall, the Patriots had 44 kills to UMHB's 66. The Lady Crusaders attacked at just under 25-percent while the Patriots managed just over 14-percent.

UT Tyler travels to Richardson this weekend for the first American Southwest Conference crossover tournament of the season. The Patriots will meet Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Friday, before returning Saturday to face Sul Ross State and Howard Payne.
