Volleyball Struggles at ASC Crossover

RICHARDSON - The UT Tyler volleyball team beat Howard Payne, 3-0, at the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament in Richardson Saturday, but the Patriots dropped their other three matches of the weekend to end the tournament with a 1-3 record.
The Patriots (5-11, 1-7) opened Friday with a 3-0 loss to Schreiner. Statistically, UT Tyler had 31 kills to Schreiner’s 35, but the Patriots’ attack percentage of .126 was well below Schreiner’s .325. Shedryl Tyler and Kelsey Walsh both had seven kills each to lead UT Tyler.
UT Tyler fell just short in two of the games, dropping game one, 30-27 and game three, 31-29. Game two was not as close, with Schreiner winning 30-14.
Friday’s late game saw Texas Lutheran notch a 3-0 (30-22, 30-20, 30-18) win over the Patriots as TLU attacked at over 40-percent. TLU had 42 total kills while UT Tyler, led by Lana Low’s eight, had 23 kills.
Linsey Schofield provided 13 assists while Megan McCarty had 15 digs.
Saturday morning, UT Tyler looked to rebound against Sul Ross State and the Patriots’ offense exploded for 52 kills while the defense had 88 digs, but Sul Ross managed the 3-1 victory. Chelsey Hannah had four blocks for UT Tyler and assisted on three others.
Despite going 0-3 so far in the tournament, UT Tyler capped the weekend with a 3-0 win over Howard Payne. The Patriots won 31-29, 30-26, 30-25.
Walsh had nine kills to pace UT Tyler, and she was helped by 11 assists from Christy Meredith and 13 from Schofield. McCarty had 23 digs while Ashley Montalvo made six solo blocks.
UT Tyler returns home for a three-game stretch beginning with LeTourneau on Tuesday at 7 p.m., followed by ETBU and Mississippi College on Friday and Saturday.
